Mostar: Reconciliation and reconstruction seminar & new student information center

In the summer of 2005, Builders for Peace embarked on a completely new initiative in Mostar: a seminar on "Reconciliation and Reconstruction" that combined 5 American volunteers, led by Judith Kubran of City University of New York, and 6 local Mostarians.

Also in the summer of 2005, and by dint of hard labor, the Mostar team designed and implemented a new Student Information Center (SIC) which was to facilitate reconciliation and unification by serving both the Sveuciliste u Mostaru (the Croatian University) and Dzemal Bijedic University. Thousands of hours and many dollars were put into the SIC project . The fact that Mostarians from both sides of the river—Croats and Bosniaks--took part has provided impetus to further efforts at reconciliation. This was one of many democracy-building projects that Builders of Peace has taken part in.
